Type 2 Diabetes Symptoms and Treatment
Type 2 diabetes is a condition caused by too much glecose (sugar) in the blood. It occurs when your body cannot produce enough insulin which is used to move glucose from the blood into cells where it is converted into energy. One of the main causes of diabetes is being overweight, because the fat around your stomach releases chemicals that upset the cardiovascular and metabolic systems in the body.
Symptoms of diabetes include
- extreme tiredness
- needing pass urine a lot, especially at night
- weight loss and loss of muscle bulk
- feeling very thirsty
- cuts and sores taking longer to heal
Diagnosis usually takes the form of a urine test to test whether it contains glucose or not. If you have glucose in your urine then that usually means you will need a blood test to confirm whether you have diabetes or not. Treatment usually consists of taking more excercise, losing weight and improving your diet. However type 2 diabetes can be progressive and it may mean that you eventually need tablets or injectable insulin.
