The consultants working at our practice include:
DR AHMED VANKER, BA, BA (Hons), MA (Clin Psych), Ph.D, C Psychol, C Sci, AFBPsS
Dr Ahmed Vanker works as a Consultant in Clinical & Paediatric Neuropsychology for the NHS and as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist at Private General Practice Services. He qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in Durban, South Africa, and completed a PhD in Neuropsychology at the University of Natal in 1989.
Dr Vanker sees a wide range of individuals, of all age groups, with various mental and physical health difficulties, for psychological assessments and therapy.
Patients seen by Dr Vanker at Private General Practice Services include:
Children and adolescents: childhood disorders including pervasive developmental disorders (PDD), e.g., autistic spectrum disorder, attention and arousal problems, e.g., attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity (ADDH), neurodevelopmental and learning problems, as well as anxiety and depression in children and adolescents (paediatrics).
Adults: adult mental health problems include stress-related symptoms, such as anxiety, panic attacks, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, sleep problems, adjustment problems and organic mental disorders, such as neurocognitive and memory disorders, dementias, traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, etc.
Physical health: psychosomatic problems, as well as psychological problems associated with physical illnesses, e.g., high blood pressure, diet-related problems, skin-related problems, etc, as well as sports & exercise-related problems.
The following types of psychological assessments are undertaken:
- Diagnostic psychological assessments using a wide range of clinical psychological tests and neuropsychological tests, including intelligence (IQ), cognitive, memory, personality tests.
- Neuropsychological assessments of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, such as epilepsy, head injury, strokes (CVA), memory problems, brain tumours, dementia, etc.
- Medico-legal assessments, more especially neuropsychological assessments of head Injury, and preparation of court reports.
- Clinical psychological assessments for insurance-related problems.
The conceptual model used is a systemic bio-psycho-social one, and Dr Vanker undertakes the following types of treatment:
- Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), multimodal therapy, supportive psychotherapy and biofeedback therapy for various mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression as well as physical health problems, including headaches, which may have a psychological basis.
- Behavioural and relationship counselling and therapy for individuals, couples and families.
- CBT for self-esteem (self-confidence) problems, avoidance-type problems and social phobias.
- Stress management for individuals, groups and organizations.
- Treatment of Stress and Anxiety related problems with Clinical Biofeedback instruments.
DR MAUREEN COGGINS, MB,BS,DIH,MFOM
Dr Maureen Coggins is a consultant in Occupational Health. She has vast experience over some 30 years working for many different organisations. She undertakes sickness absence medicals, executive health checks and other occupational health assessments on behalf of the practice. She also undertakes medico-legal reports including personal injury reports for medico-legal agencies and legal firms.
Dr Coggins has worked for a number of Blue Chip organisations during her career including the Royal Air Force, British Steel, Nottinghamshire County Council, British Telecom, Leicestershire County Council, Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service, BMI Health Services, Royal Mail and Ofsted.
DR SANJIV NICHANI MBBS, MNAMS, MRCP
Dr Sanjiv Nichani is a consultant in Paediatrics working in the NHS at The Glenfield Hospital, Leicester. He also consulta at Nuffield Hospital. He is available here at Private General Practice Services on referral from one of our Private GP Practitioners. Dr Nichani is able to consult on
- General Paediatrics
- Paediatric allergy, hay fever, asthma.

DR ANSHUMAN PANT MB, BS, MD (Psychiatry), MRCPsych, CCST
Dr Anshuman Pant is a consultant in Psychiatry working in the NHS in Leicester. He also consults at The Priory Hospital in Nottingham. Dr Pant is on the Specialist Register for Substance Misuse Psychiatry, Old Age Psychiatry, General Psychiatry. He is also Approved under the Section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act. Integrated Therapies
Whilst much is known about the importance of traditional medicine and the evidence for its continued use, far less is known about alternative medicine and integrated therapies. 25 years ago, they were considered unorthodox, but today they are very much more accepted and openly practised. Research shows that 90% of us use them in one form or another, and we know that when correctly and safely administered by open-minded and trained professionals, how beneficial they can be for body, mind and spirit.

Our new in house Nutritionist, Lindsay Kubicki, will be joining the practice on 30th March. Lindsay is highly qualified and experienced. Lindsay has a degree in Nutritional Medicine, She is an active member of her professional body, the British Association for Applied Nutrition & Nutritional Therapy (BANT), and serves on the Committee on Continuing Professional Development. She is particularly interested in research developments in functional medicine and preventive nutrition.
