Measles In Europe
As we write, there have been over 1000 cases of Measles in France. Switzerland and Germany also have significant problems with measles. This is because these countries do not have such good immunisation coverage as we do in the UK. By contrast there have been 80 cases in England. The most recent outbreak of measles is at Leeds University where so far 15 students have been affected. The first case was exposed during a skiing trip to France. The cases in England are in teenagers and adults and not very young children, as often happens with measles. Please remember that a very poorly teenager or adult with a high fever and measles like rash may indeed have measles. Please ensure that you inform us if you think that you have been in contact with someone who may have measles. Most of these patients will directly or indirectly have had contact with people from other European Countries.
It is important as the Easter holidays approach to ensure that patients travelling to Europe for holidays are properly vaccinated against measles and to remember that returning travellers may have been exposed to measles on their holidays.
It is recommended that you have at least two Measles or MMR vaccines in order to protect yourself and others against Measles. For more information, click here, or ring to book an appointment on 0116 2700373.

Whilst much is known about the importance of traditional medicine and the evidence for its continued use, far less is known about alternative medicine and integrated therapies. 25 years ago, they were considered unorthodox, but today they are very much more accepted and openly practised. Research shows that 90% of us use them in one form or another, and we know that when correctly and safely administered by open-minded and trained professionals, how beneficial they can be for body, mind and spirit.
