Dr Piper sits on the Council of The Independent Doctors Forum (IDF) in London. The IDF has a membership of over 600 private Consultants and General Practitioners in the United Kingdom.
Although currently specialising in private medicine, Dr Piper's experience in the NHS has helped her in some pioneering work with managing the NHS/private interface. Dr Piper retains an extraordinarily high opinion of the NHS. She says that...
".... The NHS is a marvellous facility, offering free care at the point of delivery. There are very few other institutions like it and it does a marvellous job. People sometimes discredit the NHS because of long waiting lists but they forget that there is a vastly increased amount of care available nowadays compared with ten or even twenty years ago, and that this still has to be provided from the same pot of money."
Private General Practice Services was formed in 1995 to allow Dr Piper to spend more time with her patients and provide them with the level of care they need. It is a paperless and fully networked practice and has helped to lead the way with IT in the private sector. Dr Piper has been involved as a private sector representative on the National Advisory Group for the NHS National Programme for Information Technology (NPfIT); within Connecting For Health.
Dr Piper is supported in the practice by Dr Maureen Coggins who is a consultant in occupational health, and by Dr Jill O'Hagan, who is a part time partner in an NHS practice based in Coventry. Dr Coggins assists Dr Piper in managing the healthcare needs of some 70 or more East Midlands based companies and Dr O'Hagan assists with the care of some 7,000 private patients. Rosie Clark and Claire Davis, both fully trained nurses, assist with immunisations, health checks, occupational health work, laser treatments and other cosmetic and general practice services.
Management support is provided by Mike Piper (commercial director) and General office support is provided by Katy Arscott (admin), Dee Lehan-Matthews (admin), Rebecca Corbett (admin), Lucy Caleb (admin), Jim Reading (accounts), and Tony Andrews (IT).
